Malpractice Insurance

Prior to completing a registration application, the candidate is responsible for obtaining acceptable malpractice insurance that meets the requirements in section 4 of Part E.7 (pharmacists) or Part F.7 (pharmacy technicians) of the SCPP Regulatory Bylaws. Malpractice insurance must be purchased separately; it is not included with registration and membership.

Please note: Every practising member must hold and continuously maintain acceptable malpractice insurance.

Effective Dates

Your SCPP Practising membership/licence expires on the date of the insurance expiry, regardless of the SCPP licensing year.

Example: If your malpractice insurance expires on December 31, then your licence will only be valid until that time. The onus is on the member to declare at registration and renewal time that they have met the malpractice insurance bylaws.

In the event the malpractice insurance valid dates do not match SCPP’s membership year (July 1 – June 30), it is the responsibility of the member to provide proof that they have insurance beyond the expiry date on file, at least 30 days in advance of the insurance expiry date.

Where to Buy

Malpractice insurance can be purchased from any insurance provider that meets the SCPP bylaws. The Pharmacy Association of Saskatchewan (PAS), the advocacy body for pharmacists in Saskatchewan, offers malpractice insurance that meets with our bylaws and follows our licensing year.
