CAP Framework

SCPP Council approved this framework in principle for the purposes of consultation with members.

The proposed Framework has two main components.

  • The left side of the framework, in green , shows the members’ individual responsibility to maintain their competence to practise. This responsibility can be fulfilled by completing self-directed Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The five steps of CPD are summarized in the green circle (See more: Resources to Support CPD). Practice Quality Data, which may include data about the current state of pharmacy practice (e.g., demographics of patients, common disease states or medications, measurement of key performance indicators, etc.), and data from structured feedback programs ( PREMS, peer/non-peer) is highlighted as an important component of some CPD cycles.
  • The right side of the framework, in blue , outlines an Intermittent Coaching for Practice Improvement (PI) program, including structured feedback processes. See more here. The Competency Assurance Program also involves a random audit or verification of individual member CPD, as well as a follow-up of members' work in the Intermittent Coaching for Practice Improvement program, especially if the PI program is incomplete or required.

SCPP recognizes the many challenges facing members. To best support pharmacy professionals in this process, the CAP will be implemented gradually. We will consult and seek feedback from our members throughout the process. SCPP's priorities include:

  • Supporting members in purposeful, guided, completion of CPD.
  • Implementing PREMs and Intermittent Coaching for Practice Improvement programs in community practice environments.
  • Introducing Peer/Non-Peer Feedback and Intermittent Coaching for Practice Improvement programs in inpatient (and other publicly funded) practice environments.
